Did You Know…How did the month of August get its name?
The month of August was named after the first Roman emperor Caesar Augustus. He was one of Ancient Rome’s most successful leaders. He was acclaimed as a hero with cleverness and skills.
Did You Know…August 26th is Women’s Equity Day?
On August 26th, American’s celebrate the Nineteenth Amendment which provides the right to allow citizens to vote in the United States. Before this, women were not allowed to vote! In the early 1800s, women did their best to petition and organize a way to win the right to vote. This took decades to succeed. Many women provided strategies for pursuing Congress to change this law. After hard work and dedication, the House of Representatives passed the amendment on May 21, 1919.
Did You Know…National Bratwurst Day is a Celebrated Day in August?
Bratwurst is a type of German sausage made with beef, pork, or veal and is usually heavily spiced. In the German language, the word sausage means “wurst”. Not only does Germany eat bratwurst, but the state of Wisconsin has gained a lot of popularity with eating them causing them to be the state that eats the most bratwurst. Wisconsin is known to be called “brat central”.
Did You Know…Michael Jackson’s Birthday is in the month of August?
How cool is that? The King of Pop, Michael Jackson was born on August 29, 1958. He released many albums including Thriller, Off the Wall, Bad, Invincible, and many more. Before this, he was a part of the Jackson 5 with his brothers. He was married twice; once to Debbie Rowe, and a second time to Lisa Presley. He had three children named Paris, Prince, and Blanket. Michael died on June 25, 2009, but his fans will always remember his awesome performances.
Did You Know…Why American’s celebrate Labor Day?
Labor Day was on September 4th this year. An interesting fact about this holiday is that there is never a true date on which day it falls on. Labor Day is the day each year where many American workers are able to take off of work and rest. This gives everyone a chance to take a break and unwind. Who invented Labor Day? Great question! Peter J. McGuire came up with this idea. He was a labor union leader in 1822 who wanted to honor workers with a day off.
Did you Know…When Pink’s Birthday is?
Did you know that the pop singer Pink has a birthday in September? Her birthday is September 8, 1979. She’s also an R&B singer as well, and has earned a Grammy Award! Something that you may have not known about Pink is that she has asthma, which can make it harder to sing. This doesn’t stop her from wowing the crowds of amazing fans who come to support her though! To conclude, Pink got married to Carey Hart in 2006 and had two children named Willow and Jameson.
Did You Know…What the birthstone is for the month of September?
September’s birthstone is a sapphire. It was discovered in Kashmir in 1881. A sapphire is deep royal blue in color, but can also have other colors. The pink and orange sapphire gems are the rarest. The sapphire represents truth, nobility, faithfulness, and sincerity. An interesting history behind the sapphire supports what Medieval Europeans originally thought of the gem. They believed that it could cure plague boils, diseases of the eye, and that it was an antidote to poison.
Did You Know…What the Autumnal Equinox is?
After the summer season, it’s finally time to welcome the fall season! On September 23rd of this year, the autumnal equinox will start. An interesting fact about this is that in the Northern Hemisphere, the autumnal equinox occurs in September. In the Southern Hemisphere, it occurs in March. When this astronomical event happens, days become shorter than nights because the sun rises later. In the season of fall, there are so many activities to do such as going to pumpkin patches, apple picking, festivals, Halloween events, and much more!
