To Score or Not to Score: PSAT/SAT Fun Facts

To Score or Not to Score: PSAT/SAT Fun Facts

With the SAT and PSAT testing coming up for TPHS, I do not want to repeat another article I wrote last year about test-taking tips. Instead, I want to lighten the mood with some fun facts about the SAT and the PSAT.

-The highest score you can earn on the PSAT is 1520, but on the SAT, it’s 1600.

-Most colleges were under a “test-optional” policy during the COVID wave, but most top colleges are now requiring students to submit SAT scores, so make your score count!

-The SAT was initially created as an Army IQ test in 1926.

-The reading section of the SAT/PSAT may be the longest section of the tests, but don’t let it carry you away.

-Questions on the SAT/PSAT, especially on the math section, are known to go from easier to harder questions.

-There used to be a guessing penalty where guessed answers would receive a point deduction, but it’s not in effect anymore, so if you are stuck on a question, feel free to guess.

-With the new digital SAT in place, the total time is approximately 2 hours (or 3 if you take the essay), compared to 3 hours on paper (or 4 if you take the essay).

Alongside that, I’m also a part of the National Honors Society. I joined the Newspaper Club because I’m looking to further improve my writing skills, as well as get to know more people in the school.
