Said Sisters

Said Sisters

The 911 operator then proceeded to hang up on Amina Said as she took her last breath. On New Year’s Day 2008, Amina and Sarah Said were fatally shot in the back seats of their car by their father. This man, Yaser Said, would then proceed to become one of the most wanted men in the U.S for the next 12 years. Many of the important details of this story and the moments leading up to the fatal day come from only one of the girls, Amina. This is because of a boy that she was in a relationship with at the time. This boy, Joseph Moreno, was extremely useful in both the investigation, and bringing honor to these sisters.

The problems revolving around this family began many years ago when the parents of these girls got married. At the time their mom, Patricia, was fifteen and their father, Yaser, was thirty. Patricia says that Yaser was abusive throughout their entire marriage. At eighteen, Patricia had her first child, Amina, and a year later, she had Sarah. After the incident, many strange things started popping up. Things like strange videos, and even a police report that was never followed through with resurfaced. At eight and nine years old, both girls filed a report against their father for physical and sexual abuse. Their mother later convinced them to drop the charges.

Then, at the age of fifteen, Amina met a boy named Joseph in her taekwondo class. They soon fell in love and started dating, looking for secret ways to text knowing what would happen if Yaser ever found out. Since birth, both girls have known that their father wanted to sell them in order to make money because of this, both girls knew they would be punished if they ever started dating someone. One day, Yaser found a letter that Joseph had written for Amina. Although she tried to make excuses, he didn’t believe her and decided to move the entire family somewhere else in order to find a husband for both of his girls. Still, Amina found a way to talk to Joseph and soon they started making plans for their future together.

The girls were suffering whenever their dad was near. They eventually convinced their mom to abandon their father, and move far away from him without any contact. Things were great for a little while, until their mother told them that they had to go to their grandmother’s grave to leave flowers. This was a lie. The truth was that their mother never ended contact with Yaser, and he had convinced her to come back to him with the girls. The girls were trapped again. One day, Yaser told the girls that he wanted to go to dinner with them. This would then lead to them getting into the back of his car, and fatally being shot multiple times. Sarah tried calling the police, but they hung up on her thinking it was a joke. Their bodies were later discovered by a stranger. For the next 12 years, Yaser would be hiding from the police in his son’s house, but would later be found and sent to jail for life.

To this day, Patricia continues to say that she’s the only victim in this situation, and that the girls were never abused. The information received would have never been gathered if not for Joseph. Thankfully, the girls have gotten justice and Yaser will never be able to hurt anyone again.

Hello! I’m Dayhana, I’m currently a junior in high school. I like to read and sing! My favorite book is No Exit by Taylor Adams. I’m joining the Newspaper Club because I like writing, but sometimes, the topics we have to write about in class aren’t interesting to me. Here, I can write about whatever I want! I look forward to writing for Tinley Park High School. :)
