Ghost Town

Ghost Town

Dear Tinley Titans,

Did you know that only about 1% of singers become famous in their lifetime? There are about 600-700 new artists signed every year, and of these artists, hardly anyone gets any recognition. Of this small 1%, Benson Boone is one artist that has recently gained acknowledgment. He started small but now has some songs that have gained more than 70 million views. As of 2023, he has reached 1.7 billion streams in total, and it is anticipated that the number will keep growing.

Benson Boone is a singer who started to gain popularity in the beginning of 2021, but his singing career goes further back than that. The very first time that Benson found out about his talent was in his junior year of high school. One of his friends asked him to both sing and play piano for an event at the school and Boone agreed. After this, Boone trained his voice and was on the 19th season of American Idol. Out of his many songs, one that is very popular is a song named ‘Ghost Town’.

“Ghost Town” was the first song that Benson released. On October 15, 2021, Boone published this song which quickly became popular on TikTok. As of today, this song has 31 million views on YouTube and 54 million streams on Spotify. This is a song about a romantic relationship that no longer has any drive. Boone sings about his girlfriend moving on and how it would make him happier to see her with someone else, rather than stay in this relationship that is no longer based on emotions. It is called ‘Ghost Town’ because he is singing about how their hearts won’t be able to be filled with any feelings if they stay together. He is saying that their hearts will become ghost towns. It’s said that his inspiration for this song was a friend’s sentiment about a relationship they were in.

Nonetheless, this song was and is still extremely loved. It could be for his singing voice, the lyrics themselves, or even both. Either way, this song is a great one to listen to.

Hello! I’m Dayhana, I’m currently a junior in high school. I like to read and sing! My favorite book is No Exit by Taylor Adams. I’m joining the Newspaper Club because I like writing, but sometimes, the topics we have to write about in class aren’t interesting to me. Here, I can write about whatever I want! I look forward to writing for Tinley Park High School. :)
