What is a Titan? Freshmen to seniors, everyone at Tinley Park High School is referred to as a Titan. But what does that entail? Are we representing the name, Titan, correctly? What makes us Titans? School mascots were created in the early 20th century. Used to symbolize power, savagery, and dominance, schools used mascots to illustrate the competitive nature of their staff and students. So why pick the Titan? Titans are known to be powerful mythological entities that possess great power and influence. This image of power and influence is the exact message a school would want to convey. A school’s job is to create a student body full of leaders, who take action, not only on the court or field, but also in the classroom. In addition to the Titan mascot being exhibited throughout our school and athletics, the colors red and gold are also displayed throughout. So why red and gold? Red represents concepts such as courage, power, as well as energy. Gold represents prestige and prosperity. These ideas are goals that the staff and students should strive to achieve and represent. So as you continue your journey here at Tinley, try your best! Work hard! And remember, “Once a Titan, always a Titan!”
