The St. Baldrick’s assembly was held on Friday, March 21st to raise awareness for children’s cancer. It is the largest charity that funds childhood cancer research grants. It has been 10 years since this fundraising event was held at Tinley Park High School. The event was organized by TPHS staff members Rachel Hahn, Taylor Hudak, and Bobby Neylon. They always loved the event when they were students, and they wanted their students to be able to have the same fun experience.
Several members of the Tinley Park community raised money to shave or cut their hair. In fact, some of them had inches cut off that were donated to Lock of Love. https://locksoflove.org/ Staff participants included Mr. Neylon, Mr. Royer, Mr. Sciortino, Mr. Moriarty, Mr. Huhn, Mr. Mongan, Mr. Gehant, and Ms. Miszczak. Students who participated included Mia Taglioli, Joe Bollentino, Jace Carroll, Logan Krussell, DJ McCarthy, Angel Andrade, and Gavin Banahan.
In addition to haircuts, staff and students also participated in a staff-student volleyball game which provided some close competition with the teachers coming out with a victory. Students were given the opportunity to purchase raffle tickets to be selected as the lucky student to pie a teacher in the face. By charging a $1.00 ticket fee, students were able to attend the event for an affordable price while contributing to the funds collected.
This event was a huge success. To date, there has been $10,678 raised and more money is still being collected here https://www.stbaldricks.org/events/tinleyparkhigh.
