Celebrated on the fourth Thursday of November, Thanksgiving has been a widely celebrated holiday in the United States, as well as in other countries like Canada, Brazil, and the Philippines. The roots of this holiday are traced back to the year 1619 when English colonists landed in the United States. The day that they landed, according to the charter, should be remembered forever and should be seen as a lasting achievement of the British colony. A few years later, in 1621, around the day they landed, the Pilgrims who lived in the United States were blessed with a good harvest, and they celebrated with a native tribe who gave the colonies food during the winter and offered protection from an enemy tribe. The feast tradition has been one of the most regularly celebrated traditions during the holiday. Many friends and family gatherings happen all across the country on this day to eat, socialize, and have fun with each other.
