Masks as a Statement Piece
November 18, 2020
The recent pandemic the world has been going through has resorted to wearing masks to stop the spread of COVID-19. As most of us know wearing a mask isn’t very comfortable but we wear them for our safety and some have even resulted in making them a part of the new fashion trends. Lots of influencers have posted pictures to their social media wearing masks in their pictures and in a way it makes their fans think it’s important to wear a mask, and some celebrities have even gone to the extent of making their own mask and selling them as merchandise that their fans would buy from their websites.
Celebrities such as Kim Kardashian, James Charles and many others, have made face masks and put them online for their fans to buy. Even famous clothing brands such as Fashion Nova, Off White, Playboy, Nordstrom and Old Navy have even added face masks to their collections– so when you buy clothes, you can match with your mask and it gives you a whole new look. Also there are social media pages that sell Gucci, Chanel, Louis Vuitton and many other high-end fashion brands that people would buy simply because it’s designer.
Some people have even bought those high end masks for thousands of dollars to keep up their fashion. Another example of how face masks are used for fashion is to show your personality and your beliefs, such as Black Lives Matter masks that people wore during protests to show support for the movement; likewise, Pride flag masks are statement pieces for those who are part of the LGBTQ+ community, and many have found ways to show their religious views or political beliefs through mask-wearing.
Although adults and teens are wearing masks to stay safe and be fashionable, babies and toddlers are wearing them, too and some parents are using designer brands to show off their stylish babies! Masks are a headache to wear, but to make the best of it, people can find one that fits nicely, is breathable, and shows off their individuality. Masks have impacted our lives a lot through this pandemic, but nobody said we can’t be safe and stylish at the same time!
