International Women’s Day is on March 8th. It is all about equality, empowerment, and inclusion! Many women have impacted our world for the better. Although there were setbacks, we have also had amazing results such as the 19th Amendment, which allowed women the right to vote. In addition, women were able to join the military in 1948 when President Truman signed the Women’s Armed Service Integration Act. Here is a little bit about four inspiring women.
Rosa Parks: A civil rights activist for African Americans. She didn’t think it was right to give up her seat so she stood up for what she believed in. She had one of the largest social movements in history and organized the Montgomery Bus Boycott.
Malala Yousafzai: An activist for education in Pakistan. She voiced her thoughts about this and won the Nobel Peace Prize for standing up against the Taliban. She also wrote a book called I Am Malala that shared all her experiences.
Amelia Earhart: An aviation pioneer who was the first woman to fly solo across the Atlantic Ocean. She did this alone in 1932. She also had a functional clothing line in 1933. It was designed “for the woman who lives actively”.
Frida Kahlo: An artist known for her self portraits that display pain and passion. She had polio as a child and multiple fractures, so she decided to paint while she recovered. She has around 200 pieces of art.
To conclude, inspiring women across the globe have greatly shaped our world. As Rosa Parks stated, “You must never be fearful about what you are doing when it’s right”. This quote influences many people and shares the important message through meaningful words.
